Kings County
National Day of Prayer

First Thursday in May in Hanford Civic Park • 12pm-1pm

Our Story

A day of prayer for the whole community.

The annual National Day of Prayer was established by federal law in 1952 when the United States Congress passed a joint resolution, which was signed by President Harry Truman.  The law was amended in 1988 and signed by President Ronald Reagan, specifically designating the first Thursday in May as the official National Day of Prayer.

On the first Thursday in May, the National Day of Prayer will take place, and millions of Americans will unite from coast to coast to pray.  It’s so exciting to see the incredible work God is doing in the hearts and lives of people as a result of people coming together in prayer.  For the last two decades, Kings County has hosted a community prayer event, aligning itself with the nation in prayer.

Janice Rogers and the Kings Prayer Force faithfully organized the event locally until 2018 when the baton was passed to Kings Christian School. This year’s event is sponsored by the Christian Leaders Network. The 2026 National Day of Prayer will take place outdoors at the Hanford Civic Auditorium park. This year we are planning to have a large tent to provide shade as well as chairs available. Please join us!

THIS YEAR’S THEME

GLORIFY GOD AMONG THE NATIONS
SEEKING HIM IN ALL GENERATIONS

Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples.
1 Chronicles 16:24

In 2026, our theme is inspired by a passionate prayer of Thanksgiving, prayed by King David in 1 Chronicles 16 after bringing the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. This chapter records Israel celebrating the return of the Ark after being separated for 70 years earlier. While God was always watching over Israel and just a prayer away from them and King David, the Ark of the Covenant represented the presence of God having been constructed at the command of God and carried by the Levites with Moses as they wandered and waited to enter the Promised Land and eventually stolen from the tabernacle in Shiloh at their defeat in the battle in Ebenezer.

Kings County Together

The biggest way to help is to PRAY! Pray for our event, but more than that, pray all year long for our community, for our pastors and churches, for our businesses, for our military, for our civic leaders, for our first responders, for our educators and students, and for marriages and families!

The local NDP event is sponsored this year by the Christian Leaders Network, a gathering of local pastors and Christian leaders. If you would like to help underwrite our expenses, donations can be made through Koinonia Church (put NDP in the memo) and mailed to PO Box 1378 Hanford, CA 93232 or online at kchanford.com/give (select NDP in the drop down).
